This statue, the work of Ricardo Iñurria, portrays Our Lady of El Carmen, the patron saint of Santurtzi since 1907, whose festivity is marked by lavish celebrations. For 10 days Santurtzi enjoys a pleasant festive atmosphere with hundreds of events organised for young and old alike. These popular festivities begin with the free sampling of various tonnes of grilled sardines. If there is one special moment, then that has to be the Sea Procession. It begins at 6 p.m. every 16th July with the removal of the Statue of Our lady from the Church of Saint George on the shoulders of local fishermen.
Santurtzi has an extensive cultural, sporting and entertainment
