Discover the history of Bilbao as you sail up the river in style on a sailboat. This is a unique way of learning more about the culture of Biscay. With a tasting session of local products thrown in, washed down with some fabulous local wines, you have all the ingredients for an unforgettable experience.

We'll be setting off from the marina in Santurtzi and heading up the river estuary, passing under the iconic Puente Bizkaia transporter bridge  (known locally as the "Hanging Bridge"), a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

On the way, we'll taste some great Txakoli wine accompanied by some delicious anchovies and an oak-aged red from La Rioja Alavesa, served with cheese from a local designated origin.

Our journey upriver amidst towering cranes is a reminder of this area's industrial past, when both banks of the estuary were home to shipyards and steel mills.

We will dock at the Maritime Museum  , just a short walk from the Guggenheim Museum.

On the way back down the river, there'll be a chance to enjoy a fine Cava or Pacharan accompanied by some typical Basque sweetmeats.
